Blood cell morphologies that make a difference in medical decisions

MIC Drop: From Results to Action – Improving Your Diagnostic Game

The session is focused on essential concepts in clinical microbiology and their application to antimicrobial decision-making. Key microbiology terms including Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs), standardized thresholds used to categorize organisms as susceptible, intermediate, or resistant to specific antibiotics, and the role of antimicrobial stewardship, will be reviewed.

The session also covers effective microbiology specimen submission, including proper collection, labeling, transport, and timing to ensure accurate, clinically useful results. Participants will learn to interpret microbiology reports and susceptibility profiles and apply findings to patient care.

Breakpoint changes and their effect on reported susceptibilities will be discussed, as updates can alter organism classifications and treatment choices. Through real-world cases, attendees will interpret microbiology data, choose appropriate antimicrobial therapy, and support evidence-based, responsible antibiotic use.

PCR and Serology: How to Incorporate Advanced Diagnostics Into Clinical Practice

Join us for a practical lecture on diagnosing infectious diseases, clarifying molecular and antibody testing and how to integrate them with everyday in-house diagnostics.

Logical clinical workups using in-house hematology and biochemistry to identify infection patterns and guide when to choose PCR or serology for confirmation will be covered.

Through case-based examples, participants will learn to interpret assays, use paired titers, avoid diagnostic pitfalls, and combine in-house bloodwork with PCR and serology for faster, more accurate diagnoses and improved patient outcomes.
