Blood cell morphologies that make a difference in medical decisions
Abnormality in blood morphology are known parameters for supporting diagnosis and treatment plans. However, it is not commonly performed or documented effectively in a point of care manner with consistency. In this lecture, through three case examples, clinical decisions can be made differently with in-house automated blood morphology assessments. The discussion will include morphology of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, from the point of views of both medicine and practice managements.

Common ear disease management with automated ear cytology
Ear diseases are commonly seen in small animal practices, including Otitis Externa, Malassezia Otitis, Otitis Media, Parasitic Otitis, and Allergic Otitis. Ear cytology is essential test for making targeted treatment plans and management decisions. In this lecture, critical findings in ear cytology that will impact clinical decisions will be reviewed, and case studies incorporating automated ear cytology by inVue Dx with optimized workflow will be discussed.

Speakers Biography
Dr. Ben Brown
BVSc (Hons) MACVSc MCom
Ben Brown holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Sydney, a Master of Commerce from the University of Sydney, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery from Harper Adams University.
Over the course of his career, Ben has built extensive experience across clinical veterinary practice, hospital ownership, and the animal health industry. He is currently a Director at Sydney Animal Hospitals and a partner at The Avalon Veterinary Hospital. Earlier in his career, he worked as a veterinary surgeon in a range of practices across Australia and the UK, including specialist, companion animal, and mixed-practice environments. He also held roles with Novartis Animal Health in both professional services and category marketing, giving him valuable experience at the intersection of veterinary medicine, technical support, and commercial strategy. In addition, Ben serves as a disaster response veterinarian with World Vets, contributing his skills to international volunteer and emergency care initiatives.
Ben’s expertise spans clinical veterinary medicine, orthopedic, general, and dental surgery, practice leadership and ownership, and marketing and strategy within the animal health sector. His unique combination of clinical, business, and industry experience enables him to contribute effectively across patient care, team leadership, and organisational growth.
Dr. Chia-Chun Hou
DVM, PhD
After receiving veterinary degree from National Taiwan University, Dr. Hou pursued her postgraduate study at University of Edinburgh researching immunological changes of atopic dogs undergoing allergen-specific immunotherapy, with which she obtained her PhD in 2007. After practicing for a decade in Taipei, in 2017, Dr. Hou established her own clinic in Hsinchu, focusing on canine and feline dermatology, internal medicine, endocrine disorders and immune-related conditions. Dr. Hou enjoys speaking and sharing knowledge outside of her clinical work, she also teaches dermatology as a visiting assistant professor at Asia University.
Dr. Hou believes that detailed history is often the baseline for establishing an accurate diagnosis, especially when it comes to dermatology cases. She is passionate about sharing her unique experiences and tips for collecting all the relevant clinical clues, putting it together to solve a complex medical puzzle. Urine analysis is very often a critical piece of clinical data that has been overlooked, she hopes to bring more awareness about urine analysis through her sharing.
