Glucocorticoids are commonly used in veterinary medicine due to their diverse physiologic and pharmacologic effects. They may be used as physiologic replacement therapy, anti‑inflammatories, immunomodulators, and immunosuppressants depending on dosage and patient's condition. Their use requires balancing efficacy and adverse effects.

In this talk, using clinical case examples, we will explore practical strategies when formulating treatment plans to optimize glucocorticoid selection, dosing and species‑specific considerations. We will discuss approaches and contraindications to minimize adverse effects while maintaining therapeutic efficacy. Optimizing use of glucocorticoids can improve outcomes and reduce adverse effects in both dogs and cats.
