Experienced Full Time Veterinarian required

Valley Veterinary Centre, Hong Kong
http://www.valleyvetcentre.com.hk/

Experienced Full Time Veterinarian required for a very well established, [more than 50 years], non-corporate, private veterinarian owned Hong Kong Island clinic with excellent clientele and interesting challenging cases.

This is a position for a confident veterinary general practitioner who also may want to pursue some special interests!

The right vet for this job still enjoys being a vet, still has a passion to care for animals, and very much enjoys being an important part of a family's care for their pet. We are a 100% small animal (dogs and cats) general practice and very personable. Our clients are friendly, co-operative and loyal through generations! We are truly a family veterinary practice.

We are steadily busy, work by appointments and see a variety of cases as first and second opinions. We close at closing time and try to maintain a good work life balance. After-hours calls are taken but after-hours cases are never seen- they are referred to one of the several fully staffed 24/7 emergency centres in Hong Kong.

Veterinarians must be able to work alone and be reliable, responsible, compassionate and also work as a team player. Case work up and management of cases personally with clients is important.

Weekend work is expected, 4.5 day a week roster with shared public holidays (1/2 day only).

Fluent English is required (most clients speak English). This is somewhat unique in Hong Kong as in most areas the clients do not speak English well, which makes it difficult as a non-Chinese speaker to gain a rapport with clients. The majority of our clients speak excellent English which enables you as the family veterinarian to discuss the case directly with the owner and build the trust relationship directly with them. This is a far more rewarding way to practice!

Please send application to
Dr Lloyd Kenda

Notice of Research Collaboration Invitation: Genomic Epidemiology and Global Mapping of Resistant Bacteria in Pet Animals

Research Team:
Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health, City University of Hong Kong
Professor Patrick Butaye,
Dr. Nwai Oo Khine,
Miss Fengyu (PhD. Student)

Dear Veterinarians,

We're planning to conduct a research project on "Genomic Epidemiology and Global Mapping of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus and Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter spp." Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a critical global health threat, and pets can play a role in the transmission of resistant bacteria. There is very limited information regarding on these bacteria in pet dogs and cats in Hong Kong. Therefore, your clinic’s participation will help us understand the spread of these pathogens in Hong Kong’s cat and dog populations, contributing to better AMR surveillance and control strategies.

Research Objectives

  • Detection of Sccmec mobile genetic element in Staphylococcaceae from pets.
  • Detection of Acinetobacter species' prevalence and resistance status in cats and dogs.
  • Establish genomic epidemiology and genetic links with global data resources.

How You Can Help:
We would like to invite your clinics to participate in sample collection of dogs and cats who undergo general anaesthesia (for desexing, surgery or clinical procedure) in Hong Kong.

We provide all necessary materials and protocols with minimal extra effort required.

Sample Collection Details
We'll provide all sampling materials. Samples will be safely stored and transported to CityU's lab.

Benefits:

  • Your participation will contribute to locally relevant AMR surveillance and receive a summary report of findings applicable to veterinary practice.
  • Acknowledge participating clinics in publications (if desired).

If interested, contact Dr. Tint Naing (tn@pawsandclaws.com.hk), Dr. Nwai Oo Khine (nokhine@cityu.edu.hk) or Miss Feng Yu (fyu222-c@my.cityu.edu.hk).
