Reminder
Regarding Sick Puppies from Pet Shop Survey
Dear HKVA Members
As you are aware
the SPCA is currently conducting a survey regarding the incidence
of sick puppies from pet shops in Hong Kong in an effort to
highlight any welfare issues, improve the well being of animals
and protect potential pet owners. The introduction of compulsory
micro-chipping will provide us with a more accurate tracing
mechanism; it will also highlight any pet shops who are selling
puppies without microchips.
Unfortunately
we do not see a great deal of pet shop puppies as we believe
pet shops are NOT very proactive in advising pet owners to
see us; as such we believe the survey would be far more valid
if we could extend to all registered veterinary surgeons including
HKVA members.
We have produced
a form (in Chinese and English) for vets and clients to fill
in at the time of consultation. The client and veterinary
clinic can of course remain anonymous if they want to.
To download the
English form please click here.
To download the
Chinese form please click here.
The SPCA is happy
to be the collection point for forms and the plan is to send
a report of the findings to the AFCD. Members can fax the
form to "Attention Dr. Jane Gray" at fax number
2598 1106.
We hope this survey
can continue to highlight problems regarding pet shops in
Hong Kong and lobby the government for stronger controls in
an effort to improve animal welfare.
Your support in
this matter is greatly appreciated.
Warm Regards
Dr. Jane Gray
