WESTERMEYER, DVM Dr. Hans Westermeyer grew up in Chile, South America and always had a keen interest in the well being of animals. To that end, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and then his degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri's College of Veterinary Medicine. While in school he became fascinated by ophthalmology, a discipline that requires incredible dexterity and attention to detail as well as an understanding of the animal as a whole, and decided to pursue specialization in that field. Before being accepted into a three-year ophthalmology residency-training program, Dr. Hans first completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching Hospital and then a research fellowship at the University of California-Davis. Dr. Hans completed his ophthalmology residency (approved by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists) at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching Hospital in June of 2010 and moved to Hong Kong in October. Dr. Hans and his wife have a Jack Russell Terrier that keeps them busy most of the time they are not working. However, when there is extra time Dr. Hans enjoys camping, hiking, and playing the piano. |

Seminar - Feline medicine Date: Monday 9th August, 2010 BVSc (Hons) MACVSc (Feline medicine) CMAVA. The Cat Clinic - Melbourne Richard has a passion for all things feline medicine and runs his own cat only clinic in Melbourne. He established this clinic in 2005 after spending 6 years at the Cat clinic in Brisbane training under Dr Vic Menrath. He runs his 4 vet practice with the able help of his fiancˆme Dr Amy Lingard - who recently passed her Fellowships in Feline medicine along with Dr. Carolyn O'Brien, another feline specialist. Richard's interests are squarely in general feline practice and his particular interest is geriatric patient management. Critical to this is feline musculoskeletal pain and osteoarthritis and its recognition and safe and effective management. He regularly presents lectures based on these interests and has recently presented an abstract at the ECVIM regarding the long-term use of NSAID's in cats. "Feline Osteoarthritis" "Feline Diabetes - Where are we today?" Where are we today with feline diabetes? With the advent of long acting synthetic insulins and a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology underpinning feline diabetes, offering clients an expectation of achieving rapid remission is a realistic goal in many cases. Richard has had the benefit of using long acting insulins such as Glargine for over 8 years now and will share his clinical application of glargine and feline diabetes within general practice Soley sponsored by: Please RSVP to secretariat@medcom.com.hk on or before Thursday 5th August, 2010. |
