A
statement clarifying about the issue on Rabies diagnostic
tests
On
the light of a recent classified advertisement listing
out diagnostic tests for Rabies, The HKVA would like
to remind all members about the potential zoonotic potential
and the serious consequences of the disease. Rabies
remains one of the most important reportable diseases
in Hong Kong and any suspected rabid case or animal
MUST BE REPORTED AND REFERRED TO THE AGRICULTURAL, FISHERIES
AND CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT (AFCD) IMMEDIATELY FOR ANY
FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AND FOLLOW UP. Any contact with
the suspected animals or handling of their remains or
secretions should be minimized and all veterinary staff
should ensure protection of fellow staff members, clients
and animals from potential exposure to the virus.
The
Rabies Ordinance CAP 421 is attached here for your reference.
