Cell therapies using allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a novel treatment option due to the cells' unique characteristics: (1) low immunogenicity and ability to "evade" the immune system, (2) immunomodulation, (3) anti-inflammation, (4) trophic support, (5) homing and migration to diseased areas and (6) potential to differentiate to functional cells such as chondrocytes and osteocytes. In this symposium, the stem cell technology and its theory of function in various disease models, including the allogeneic mesenchymal stem cell therapy development on real-life clinical applications for cats and dogs with the most prestigious and updated clinical research knowledge will be discussed.

Speaker's Biography

Dr. Fari Izadyar
DVM Ph.D.

Dr. Fari Izadyar is a well renowned scientist in the field of biotechnology and stem cell research. He holds a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a PhD in the field of Reproductive Medicine and Stem Cell Biology. He is the pioneer in developing specific cryopreservation protocol for long-term storage and banking of germ line stem cells and the ultrasound guided transplantation procedure for testicular cell transplantation in large animal species. He also invented new methods for characterization, propagation and maturation of germline stem cells.

Dr. Chad Maki
