Protein-losing renal diseases have become increasingly recognised as a major cause of CKD in dogs. Early detection and aggressive management may help to mitigate the adverse effects of proteinuria. In cases of persistent or severe proteinuria, renal biopsy, with appropriate evaluation, is recommended to better define the underlying glomerulopathy and direct therapy. Immunosuppressive therapy may be helpful in managing proteinuric renal disease in some patients.
