Veterinary Surgeon Required


Dr Hugh's Veterinary Hospital is seeking a veterinary surgeon with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience. Full time is preferable; part-time or more recent graduates are still welcome to apply.

You would be joining a well-equipped practice that attempts to maintain high standards of medical and surgical care, is enthusiastic about building strong client relations, has a wonderful team of support staff, and a warm and friendly working atmosphere.

Clinicians are encouraged to follow their own cases, but support is readily available. The workload is diverse: we see significant numbers of second opinion cases in addition to primary presentations, we deal with small furries (training would be given as required) as well as the usual dog and cat caseload, and our clientele includes several local animal charities as well as our very pleasant private clients. We have no boring days.

After Hours Emergency and Critical Care Veterinarian Wanted


The Animal Emergency Centre is Hong Kong's only dedicated referral emergency clinic and is focused on providing the vets and pet owners of Hong Kong with the highest levels of patient care, quality service and compassion.

We receive a diverse and interesting caseload through direct access and referring practices and set a high standard for Emergency Veterinary Medicine in Hong Kong. We have a strong emphasis on working with referring practices on cases, and on communication with both owners and veterinarians. We are integrated with East Island Animal Hospital, one of the largest general practice veterinary hospitals on Hong Kong Island, giving the Animal Emergency Centre a highly competent support team, access to significant diagnostic, medical and treatment resources, and an extensive knowledge base.

You will be based at our completely renovated purpose-built facility, spanning 4 interlinked premises in Shau Kei Wan, Hong Kong Island East, designed to WSAVA gold accreditation standards.

Our hospital is well equipped with multiple surgical suites, digital radiography, in house laboratory (including blood gas analysers), ultrasound and Storz Endoscope. You will also have the support of highly-trained and experienced professional colleagues who are happy to lend a hand, teach a skill or give an opinion if needed. All our nurses are highly trained (we don't hire inexperienced support staff), to allow you to focus on your vet work.

The position offers rewarding base salary with a generous profit-sharing and incentive program. Salary range from $70,000HKD to $90,000HKD per month, depending on skills and experience, with an additional profit share bonus awarded monthly.

Due to our recent expansion we now have a wonderful and comfortable 3600 sq ft hospital. We have new veterinarians coming to work with us and therefore we need more Veterinary Assistants to come and have fun learning about and working with many types of exotic pets as well as cats and dogs.

We would like any new VA's to have:

Consulting Veterinary Surgeon


We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ross Christopher Elliot, will be available for consultations and surgery procedures from November 26th to December 1st at Victory Animal Hospital, Mong Kok. Dr. Ross is a registered veterinarian in Hong Kong and is a registered South African Veterinary Surgical Specialist. He is however not registered in Hong Kong as a specialist surgeon.

Dr. Ross Elliott Graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2005. He then entered into a surgical residency at the Bryanston Veterinary Hospital through the University of Pretoria. He completed his residency in small animal surgery in 2011. During this time he completed a dissertation in the surgical CT anatomy of the canine abdomen, which produced 2 publications in Veterinary Surgery. Ross has been working as a specialist surgeon at the Bryanston Veterinary Hospital for the last 6 years as a specialist surgeon.

During this time he has produced multiple publications in international journals. These include an article on successful treatment of a double chambered right ventricle in a dog under cardiopulmonary bypass.

Ross's main surgical interest lies in total hip replacement surgery, cranial cruciate ligament surgery, elbow dysplasia and medial shoulder instability in canines, new ways to treat patella luxation in dogs, advanced spinal surgery (especially in large breed wobblers), urogenital surgery, and portosystemic shunt attenuation. Dr Ross is doing Total Hip Replacement surgery and is available for evaluation and assessment of patients for this as well as for the procedure itself.

In the last 6 years of referral work Ross has attended an advanced arthroscopic course in Munich, a complete course in linear and hybrid fixation using the Imex systems, a microvascular surgical course and a Biometric stifle and a BioMedtrix hip replacement course.

Ross is happy to help with any surgical referral and prides himself on excellent patient care and compassion with feedback to the referring veterinarians.

Wanchai Animal Hospital - Ophthalmology Referral Cases


We are pleased to announce that Dr Antony Goodhead will be available for Ophthalmology Cases from 22nd to 30th November 2018. Dr Antony has been performing consultation and surgical services in Hong Kong for the last ten years.

Dr. Antony Goodhead qualified with a BVSc in 1990 and MMedVet [Ophth] in 1994, he worked as veterinary Ophthalmologist in referral practice from 1994 to 1997, and is a Senior Lecturer [Part time] at Onderstepoort Faculty of Veterinary Science from 1997 to present, his duties include lecturing both pre and post graduate students, he is also a mentor and co mentor for two post graduate veterinary ophthalmologists.

Dr. Antony Goodhead started Johannesburg Animal Eye Hospital in 1997, which is the first 100% dedicated specialist practice in South Africa. He then opened Cape Animal Eye Hospital in 2011 and did consulting there on a 1 in 3 rotation. Dr. Antony Goodhead had been consulting in Hong Kong, UAE and Malaysia for referral ophthalmology cases for the past 12 years.

Consulting Veterinary Surgeon at Wanchai Animal Hospital


We are pleased to announce that Dr. Johan Nel, will be available for consultations and surgery procedures from 23 September until 12 October at Wanchai Animal Hospital, Wanchai.

Dr. Nel is a registered veterinarian in Hong Kong and is registered as a Veterinary Specialist Surgeon by the South African Veterinary Council. (He is not however currently registered in Hong Kong as a specialist surgeon)

Dr. Johan Nel graduated from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, South Africa in 1996. After qualifying he joined a mixed animal practise in Thabazimbi, on the Northern Borders of South Africa, where he did a lot of small animal medicine and surgery. He was also very involved with cattle herd health programs. In 2003-2004 he worked in Hong Kong for 14 months while furthering his studies in Wing Chun. In 2007 he sold his practise and started working at Fourways Veterinary Hospital and Specialist Referral centre as an emergency and after hour's veterinarian, while doing his Honours degree in Veterinary Surgery. In 2011 he entered into his surgical residency at Fourways Veterinary Hospital and Specialist Referral centre through the University of Pretoria and completed his Specialisation in Small Animals Veterinary Surgery in 2016. During this time he completed a dissertation the Biomechanical comparison between pins and polymethylmethacrylate and the SOP locking plate system to stabilize canine lumbosacral fracture-luxation and has published in publications in South African and international journals. Dr Nel has been working as a Veterinary Specialist Surgeon at Fourways Veterinary Hospital and Specialist Referral centre for the last 2 years and is a partner in the practise.

Johan's main surgical interest lies in orthopaedic surgery, external skeletal fixation, spinal surgery, cranial cruciate ligament surgery, urogenital surgery, and hepato-biliary surgery, but enjoys any surgical challenge.

Dr Nel believes in continued education and attended several courses in the UK, Europa and the USA on orthopaedic surgical procedures, arthroscopy, linear and hybrid external fixation (IMEX), placement of subcutaneous urethral bypass (SUB) etc.

Dr Nel is happy to help with any surgical referral and prides himself on excellent patient care and compassion with feedback to the referring veterinarians.
